On June 27th, Financial Street and YueTan Street in Xicheng District were officially designated as "International Safe Community" by World Health Organization. They are the 139^th and 140^th in the world to have this title.

    Xicheng District firstly started experimental Safe Community Projects in July, 2005. During the last 3 years, based on the core concept of "joint participation and shared safety", Xicheng District consistently unified resources, improved systems and gradually formed communities that focus on senior citizens, children and disabled people. In September, 2007, Financial Street and YueTan Street were designated as "National Safe Community" by the National Community Safety Promoting Center. On July 27th, 2008, the two streets were designated as "International Safe Community".

    Xicheng District will establish an educational center for disaster-prevention, which will be a modern educational center that integrates education, popular science and experience process. The center will be a training place focused on enhancing people's safety awareness.
