Various kinds of ornaments with cultural flavor beautifully decorated the ancient Hutong. Every afternoon, foreigners, carrying their bags and holding their cameras wander on the Yandai Byway, captivated by the easten atmosphere and the Beijing traditional culture. A Russian girl visiting Yandai Byway said she loves the traditional Chinese costume, she had bought Chinese costumes of different colors, what she likes about the Chinese costumes is the Chinese culture in them. She was so fond of the handicraft art articles on the Yandai Byway that can hardly put them down. A visitor from Germany was very interested in seal cutting. She thanked seal cutting master Xue Guoliang in Chinese language when she got the seals with her own name on them. Master Xue Guoliang said that seal cutting art which has special Chinese flavor is very popular with foreigners. For each day, several seals were always made for foreigners on average after the Olympics. Mr. Zhang, owner of one of the shops on Yandai Byway, said that after the Olympics, the number of visitors hasn't fallen. On the contrary, more visitors came here. "Yandai Byway is famous home and abroad, it'is very lucky to own a shop here. " He also told the reporter that the bussiness is better at night than in the day time, most customers are foreigners who like the Chinese-stylistic old objects, and those young people who developed more and more interests in stuff like these. "Although many foreigner came to China for the first time, they adapted to the local life quickly. They even know how to bargain. It's because they really have great interests about all the things here. Mr. Zhang sells his goods in not-so-fluent but practical English.
"Showing off" their Chinese in HouHai bars In the bars around the Yinding Bridge, ten more visitors from England, Korea, Japan, France, Germany, Spain raised glasses and said "gan bei" in Chinese (which means "cheers"). Though they don't know each other, everybody was happy. Chinese become the commonly used language here. A visitor from France told the reporter that many foreigners know about Shichaihai area, he read a lot of books about Shichahai before coming to China. And he originally planed to go back to France right after the Olympics was over, but now he wanted to spend more days here. A visitor from Germany said "The world is proud of you" "It is so unforgetable, every moment of the Beijing Olympics is so perfect and fantastic. The way you Chinese lit up the Holy Fire is amazing, just like a myth!" after the Olympics, visitors still choose to spend their time in Shichahai area. They are totally imersed in the pleasing atmosphere.
Riding tricycles in Tutongs A visitor from Austria said:"The first thing for one come to Beijing is to trace the traditional Beijing flavor. Shichahai is a great place where the historic feeling is well-preserved." these days, whenever the weather is good, there are foreigners visiting the Hutongs on tricycles. Many of them have been to New York, London, Paris, but cherish special affection for Shichahai. 3 Italian young men were taking photos of a tricycle. They invited the rider to teach them and mastered the skill quickly. "I can ride a tricycle now, let's ride back home!" one joked.
A foreigner in Shichahai told the reporter sincerely that the Olympics let them experience the hospitality and the opened minds of the Beijing people.
