Soong Ching Ling Former Residence
Soong Ching Ling Former Residence is situated on the beautiful north bank of the Hou Hai(Rear Lake) in Beijing. It was the palace of Prince Zai Feng, father of Pu Yi, the last emperor of the Qing Dynasty. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949, Entrusted with the task by the Party and government Premier Zhou En-lai personally ｓｅｌｅｃｔed this old garden to be Soong Ching Ling residence.The garden was repaired and remodeled and a new 2-story building was constructed to the west of the existing main building.
Soong Ching Ling moved here in April, 1963. Here she lived and worked till herdeathe on May 29, 1981. In October, 1981, here is named as “Soong Ching Ling Former Residence, Honorary Chairman of the People’s Republic of China”. On may 29, 1982, it is officially open to the public. Soong Ching Ling Residence is not only on the list of the important historical sites to be given special protection and also the Base for Patriotic Education. It is not only a famous tourist attraction but also a good place to learn mordern history of China.
